Mallory Wins the Veto. The Easy Boot Just Refused.

Mallory Aurichio, initially the clear week-one target and often referred to as the 'easy boot,' stunned the house by winning the first Power of Veto, flipping the expected eviction plans entirely. Despite holding a veto medal, she remains nominated alongside Taylor Brown and Yash Patel until the veto ceremony occurs. The house's original consensus to quietly evict Mallory unraveled, forcing HOH Dee Valladares to reconsider nominations and potential renominees, with Melody, Barrett, and Ashley floated as possibilities. Mallory herself is cautiously navigating alliances, expressing doubts about who would use the veto on her and acknowledging the need to disrupt the weekly nomination cycle

Mallory Wins the Veto. The Easy Boot Just Refused.

The first real story of BB28 flipped Saturday at 4:58 PM, when the feeds came back from a two-and-a-half-hour blackout and Mallory Aurichio was holding the Power of Veto.

Sit with that for a second. The woman who has been the named target since night one β€” the "easy boot," the person half the house spent the last twenty-four hours gently talking each other out of fighting for β€” walked into the first veto comp of the season and won it. The soft-landing plan didn't fail because someone flipped. It failed because Mallory refused to leave.

The board tonight

  • HOH: Dee Valladares πŸ”‘
  • Veto: Mallory Aurichio πŸ…
  • On the block: Mallory, Taylor Brown, Yash Patel 🎯

Yes, Mallory still shows nominated on the PocketBB board β€” she's got both the medal and the target icon right now, which is exactly correct. She's won the power to save herself; she hasn't used it yet. The veto ceremony hasn't happened on feeds (Mallory herself was hunting down Angela at 6:18 PM to ask when it is), so the board holds her as a nominee-with-a-veto until the ceremony resolves. When it does, the board updates. That's how this works.

How we got here

If you read this morning's note, you know the overnight story: the house was building Mallory's exit ramp. Melody deciding it was "too early to fight" for her. Jason coaching Lyric to keep distance. Lyric and Rome talking nails and coffins. Drew and Melody sketching jump-ship scenarios. The consensus had hardened β€” Mallory goes, nobody bleeds.

That consensus held right up to the comp. At 1:08 PM Saturday, Jason was still telling Lyric the "safe option for everyone is to just let Mallory go." Taylor was on the hammock with Dee at 10:39 AM with her stomach in knots, expecting veto that day. Around 1:40 PM the house talked chip draws, and Angela noted the veto usually runs an hour or two after the meeting. Feeds cut at 2:24 PM.

At 4:58 PM they came back, and the safe option was dead.

"She beasted it"

The post-veto reaction shots were a whole genre unto themselves. By 5:01 PM Mallory had the medallion on. At 5:05 PM, Melody told Drew she was happy Mallory won β€” while wondering aloud if Mallory would "crash out" again, which is a very specific flavor of congratulations.

The best material came a few minutes later. Taylor said Mallory used to play the kind of game the veto turned out to be. Melody offered that Mallory used to build hamster mazes like that as a kid. Yash said flatly that she "beasted" it, and that she'd been so down before. Latrice, the voice of the season so far: it's not over till it's over.

Yash, for the record, also thinks he could have won if Mallory weren't there β€” a sentence that has been spoken after every veto in Big Brother history β€” and Haley briefly confused the veto with the Blockbuster before Melody explained the difference. Week one, everyone.

The nerd package pays off (theory, filed as theory)

Light preseason texture here, clearly labeled as fan-read and not fact: Mallory was sold to us as the rocket scientist. Glasses, nerd energy, the whole press-still package. Preseason chatter joked about whether casting had assembled a Gheesling-adjacent nerd archetype off the rack. We're not asserting anything about credentials or wardrobe departments β€” that's not what this is.

What we can say, with receipts, is that the house itself credited childhood hamster mazes and "she used to play that game" for the veto win, minutes after it happened. The package casting sold us just cashed in on the feeds, in the houseguests' own words. That's not a gotcha. That's just funny.

What's open now

Everything downstream is live:

The renom. Melody was floated as the replacement in the original week-one plan if the veto got used. By 5:22 PM, Rome and Devens were chattering Barrett or Ashley instead, with Rome confident Dee won't touch him. Mallory herself worried at 5:18 PM that Barrett could go up. Nothing is locked. Dee has a decision to make and a target who just evaporated.

The trust map is redrawing itself. Mallory told Lyric she's not sure Melody would have used the veto on her had Melody won β€” and by 6:56 PM she was telling Taylor the same thing, "between you and me." She also said the quiet part: Dee told her there was no target, but Mallory wanted Yash out and it wasn't her choice; Dee's nice, but they haven't clicked. And then the sentence that makes this a season: Mallory told Taylor they'll have to put Dee up sometime to stop the weekly-nom cycle. The easy boot is doing target math now.

The Blockbuster. Still ahead, still confusing people (see: Haley), still capable of scrambling whatever the renom sets up. Yash was already gaming it out with Jason at 7:41 PM β€” Jason's read that the replacement nom "changes everything" is correct, and Yash's worry about a post-Blockbuster block of him and Taylor is the right worry to have. At 7:39 PM Yash confirmed to Jason what we already knew: Dee said Mallory was the target. Was. Past tense doing heavy lifting.

The genre rhyme

Historical pattern, not prophecy: Big Brother loves the week-one out who wins their way back into the story. The fan brain goes straight to underdog runs like Taylor Hale's β€” and no, we are not claiming Mallory Aurichio is on a winner's path after one comp. We're saying the shape is familiar. Named target, house consensus, comp win, sudden leverage. That shape has produced great television before.

Mallory was practicing her veto speech with Ashley by 5:24 PM, joking she could go for the Blockbuster too. Twenty-four hours ago the house was writing her eulogy. Tonight she's writing a speech.

The board updates when the ceremony does. Until then: Dee holds the key, Mallory holds the medal, and the easy week just got hard.
