Morning Update: Fade Into the Sunset

Saturday morning the board has not moved: Barrett HOH, the three Icons sit. Overnight he told Drew FAP is his only alliance now, and he's okay fading into the sunset. Devens bets Barrett does not want the veto used. Three still sit.

Morning Update: Fade Into the Sunset

It's Saturday morning, September 5, house time, and the board hasn't moved since last night's note: Week 9, Barrett Pfeiffer is HOH, and his nominees are Angela Murray, Dee Valladares, and Rick Devens — all three Icons, sitting in a row. No veto yet. Eight remain, jury has started, Dee and Melody Morris are have-nots, and Julie says BB Comics is this week's veto, which is still a schedule line and not a result. Three-nominee week. The Blockbuster is not over.

What's new overnight is what the house did with the names. The short version: Barrett told Drew Campbell that FAP is the only alliance he has left, and that if he fades into the Big Brother sunset, he's okay. You should hold onto that sentence. It's doing a lot of work.

What you already have

Last night's note has the ceremony: noms at 5:16, adjourned by 5:18, three Icon faces on the memory wall. It has the pre-ceremony dump of the Yash Patel deal in its conflicting versions. It has Drew saying he has no one but the Icons, and Dee and Angela agreeing that if one of them comes down, Yash goes up. None of that gets rebuilt here. It just gets used.

The hammock

At 8:13 Devens is in the hammock with Angela and Dee, already drafting his told-you-so. "I can't wait to celebrate when Yash wins HOH and say I was right, one of you are going home." A minute later he pivots to the long view: "I can't believe they did not get us out sooner. We are all in jury." Angela can't believe they didn't get her out sooner. Devens does the math out loud — one of them, at least, gets sixth.

Three people on the block, gaming out placements like it's a syndicated rerun. It's the calmest anyone sounds all night.

The HOH room

The spine of the overnight is Barrett and Drew, 8:27 to 8:29.

Barrett says Devens got the DPOV and it was like a stone of safety till jury. That is Barrett's characterization, and you should file it as Barrett's characterization — Friday's file had Dee holding the power and Devens wanting five grand to use a DPOV on himself, and nothing since has confirmed who owns what. Barrett also says Dee, after she sent Haley Thogmartin out to play, thought it might have been a bad choice.

Drew reports the Icons are saying they're not mad at him, and then says the quiet part: "You and Melody are all I have left." Barrett offers that Drew still has the Icons. Drew: "I do not know." He'd wondered, when his alliance won HOH, if he'd go up for a third time. Barrett: not me.

Then the line. Barrett: my only alliance is FAP now. Live your life. If I fade into the BB sunset, I'm okay.

An HOH declaring his peace with the sunset while he's still wearing the key. At 8:32 the Icons start a no-dishes strike, which is not the story, but somebody had to log it.

Veto pressure, pre-veto

At 9:35 Melody and Drew are walking laps in the yard while Devens holds court from the hammock: "I bet B wouldn't want you to use the veto then Yash will go up." No veto exists yet. The pressure around it does.

Meanwhile, at 9:40, the kitchen recap surfaces another version of the Yash deal: earlier, Yash told Taylor Brown "the truth" about the bribe — that he cannot put up all three Icons. Taylor swears she won't say anything, and says she could feel he wasn't telling the truth. That's a recap of an earlier talk, and it does not match last night's "Dee only" version. Both stay labeled. Neither gets promoted.

Bathroom, briefly: at 10:00 Taylor tells Devens she loves the players as people and hates them in the game. Devens feels blindsided by the noms, allows that it's what they sign up for, calls it an interesting week. At 10:03 Angela apologizes to Taylor — Taylor thought Angela said something about her; Angela says she was talking about herself, "sabotaging herself over and over." By 10:22 they've landed on: the game is changing, you just have to play hard.

The ceremony you got at midnight

The speech was unseen on the feeds. What you have this morning is Melody and Drew's late-night recap, so label it that way and enjoy it anyway.

At 11:27 Melody says the nomination ceremony was so funny. At 12:10 she reconstructs it: Yash said to Angela, "Do you want a cookie?" and "aren't old people supposed to be mature?" At 12:12: Barrett said, "Really great performance for a low budget B movie." Melody's read is that it was giving Angela what she wants. Drew's: Angela is the Queen.

In between, Drew works his thesis — "I don't care about being nice. This is a sport, the social game is dead." Melody: for you. At 12:02 he lays out the case: Angela says she doesn't like when other people lie, but Angela lied about the vote, and it hurt Chuk, Haley, Yash, and Kamu's game. He can't back it.

He also likes when Melody reads the Bible and he sits next to her. Noted. At 12:24 he's in the have-not room pulling her blanket — "you want to be a HN so bad" — then he leaves, mic off, bed. Angela and Devens are already asleep. House down by 12:26.

Where it sits

Board unchanged. Three Icons on the block, veto still ahead, Blockbuster after that. Barrett says he's fine fading into the sunset. The sunset, so far, has not been consulted.
