Morning Update: Devens Swings the Veto Toward Lyric

When we signed off Sunday evening, the plan was clean: Rick Devens would use his veto on Melody, Rome would go up in her place, and the Week 2 backdoor would proceed on schedule.

Overnight Sunday into Monday, half of that plan stayed put. The other half moved.

The replacement target is still Rome. The rescue seat is not still Melody’s.

The Flip

At 9:04 PM, Angela and Dee sat down with Devens and made the case for saving Lyric instead. By 9:05 PM, Devens was convinced. A few minutes later, the three of them were sketching future targets—the Toolshed group first, then Red Corner—though we would file that under planning out loud, not a settled map.

Melody did not take the news lying down. At 9:25 PM, she campaigned directly for the veto, arguing that everyone was mad at Rome anyway. At 9:30 PM, Devens walked her through why pulling Lyric down was better for his game, and Melody said she understood. By 10:15 PM, Devens said he planned to apologize to Mallory for nominating her friends and tell her Lyric was coming down.

The logic is easy to follow: saving Lyric puts Rome on the block while pulling his closest person out of harm’s way—and potentially out of his corner. The risk is just as easy to follow: Melody stays nominated, Mallory watches her friends absorb the damage, and the anti-Survivor grumbling gets more fuel.

Rome and Lyric, a House Divided Against Itself

If you want the human subplot, it is a contradiction on a one-hour delay.

At 7:12 PM, Lyric told Dee that she and Rome could not be associated and that he “never had her”. Dee helpfully suggested trying it outside the show. At 8:06 PM, Rome and Lyric were making out in the Have-Not room, with Rome saying he loved her in the game and outside it.

Rome, for his part, is not entertaining the possibility of leaving. At 8:07 PM, he declared that he was not going anywhere—not through the Blockbuster, not through a vote—because his side needed him as its shield. That confidence would land better if the house’s power center had not spent the evening rerouting the veto around him.

At 12:40 AM, he and Lyric were holding hands under the blankets, unassociated as ever.

The Countercoalition Gets Names

The apparent decision did not travel cleanly. At 12:29 AM, Melody told Mallory she still did not know whether Devens would save her or Lyric—hours after Devens explained the plan to her face. Whether that was genuine confusion or strategic hedging, it set up the sharpest exchange of the night.

At 12:35 AM, Mallory said flatly that she wanted the Survivor players gone, and Melody agreed that plenty of people felt the same. Two minutes later, Mallory got specific: she would nominate Devens, Dee and Kamu, and Melody said that if Devens hit the block, she would be willing to send him out.

Earlier in the evening, LaTrice floated her own version: nominate Devens and backdoor Haley. The anti-Survivor current is not just a mood anymore. It has a nomination speech.

Elsewhere, Jason vented about losing the veto and said he needed to win the Blockbuster, with LaTrice reassuring him that she wanted him around. Barrett worried about his thin connections with Melody, Rome and Yash, and Devens told him he was “my boy.” At 12:54 AM, the spinning Have-Not bed resumed its rotation with the lights out—the one thing in this house moving in a predictable circle.

Where the Board Stands

None of this is official. The veto ceremony has not been recorded, Rome is not nominated, and nobody has been saved. The strongest overnight plan is Lyric down, Rome up—but plans in this house have a shelf life measured in hours, and this one already changed once.
