Evening Update: Rome Rings the HOH Door and Gets the Message

There are Big Brother images that do not need a caption, and Sunday’s episode delivered one: Rome Seymour standing outside the HOH room, ringing the doorbell over and over, while the people actively planning his backdoor sat inside in perfect, practiced silence.

For roughly five minutes.

Then he gave up and said the quiet part himself: the silence told him what he needed to know.

If your brain immediately flashed back nearly twenty years to BB7 All-Stars—when Dr. Will locked Danielle out of Erika’s HOH room to keep her from getting in Erika’s ear—same. This was not a shot-for-shot remake, but the spirit was identical: the door was the message. Rome’s social door closed before the nomination chair even opened.

Our morning update stopped at 6:57 AM PT. From there through Sunday evening, the feeds showed the Rome plan hardening while the episode finally gave us its perfect visual punchline.

A Door, a Bell, and a New Alliance Name

First, the timeline distinction: the lockout was episode footage from earlier in the week, not live action happening during Sunday’s broadcast.

Devens, Drew, Dee and the new group gathered upstairs while Rome sensed something was off downstairs. Rome went up and rang the HOH bell repeatedly. Nobody moved. Inside, Devens laid out the plan—Melody, Lyric and LaLa initially, with Rome as the replacement if anyone came down—and Drew christened the crew The Toolshed.

The post-lockout performance might be even better. When the group finally came downstairs, Rome asked why nobody opened the door. The room collectively acted surprised that he had rung at all. Rome pointed out that he could hear the bell from outside and vowed to find out what happened.

He already knew. Everyone knew. The door knew.

Later in the episode, Rome asked Devens directly whether their line of communication had been cut. Devens said yes. Brutal, but eventually honest.

The episode also aired Angela’s Hard-Boiled Detective punishment and the original nomination ceremony. Melody, Lyric and Jason remain the nominees; that ceremony was confirmation, not a new board change Sunday night.

Everyone Is Volunteering Rome

While the episode showed the door closing, Sunday’s feeds showed the plan calcifying. Apparently the house woke up and chose Rome as the answer to every question.

At 11:32 AM PT, Melody told Devens she would vote Rome out no matter who sat beside him, and that she no longer trusted him. Three minutes later, she promised Devens safety and framed a Rome vote as proof. By 11:58 AM, she was walking Devens through the count and assuring him the house would send Rome out.

Then Lyric got her turn. At 12:44 PM, she said she wanted nothing to do with Rome and that he was the reason she was on the block. She said she would nominate him herself. Between 1:28 and 1:31 PM, she pitched Devens directly: put Rome up instead of her; she could protect herself.

Jason joined the chorus at 1:06 PM, promising Devens he would nominate Rome if he won HOH. When the people currently on the block are campaigning for your nomination, the doorbell may not be your biggest problem.

Devens is not pretending this is clean. At 12:59 PM, he told Jason that he had promised Rome he would not backdoor him—but that if he used the veto and named Rome, he wanted Rome gone. At 2:21 PM, he acknowledged that he lied to Rome and expected Rome to use it against him.

The Toolshed Does the Move

By 1:48 PM, Devens had settled on taking Melody down. At 2:00 PM, he gave Angela, Dee and Barrett the order of operations: Melody down, Rome up and first out, then Jason.

Drew arrived at 2:02 PM. Devens joked “five minutes,” which is now apparently the official waiting period outside the Toolshed, and learned that Melody was fully aboard. By 2:07 PM, the room agreed that if Rome goes up, Rome goes. They did the Toolshed move. Yes, there is a move now.

The counterpoint came fast. Drew warned that if Rome survived, Rome would nominate Devens next. Devens accepted the risk—which is either bold or the setup for a very painful Thursday, depending on how the votes actually break.

The coalition has its own stress fractures, too. Between 2:36 and 2:45 PM, Dee and Angela privately worried that Devens was too easily swayed and that plans needed to serve their core three first. The anti-Rome bloc looks united on the target and considerably shakier on everything else.

Elsewhere, Lyric wished the house were Love Island, and Chuk gave Angela jars of ocean water and “ocean air,” which LaLa declared romantic. The house contains multitudes. Most of them were invited into HOH.

Where Things Stand

One important caveat: Rome is not officially nominated. The veto ceremony has not happened. He is the intended replacement, loudly and repeatedly, but intentions still have a shelf life in this house.
