Evening Update: Use This Thing

Sunday evening the board has not moved: Barrett HOH, Yash has the veto, three Icons still sit. Devens asked Barrett if they can get Yash to use it, then told Taylor he wants it used on himself. Angela and Dee spent the afternoon building a girls pitch. Ceremony still ahead.

Sunday evening in the house, and the board has not moved an inch since this morning's note. Week 9. Barrett Pfeiffer is HOH, Yash Patel holds the veto, and the nominees are still Angela Murray, Dee Valladares, and Rick Devens — three chairs, eight people, jury underway, Dee and Melody Morris on slop. Three-nominee week. The Blockbuster is not over. The ceremony has not happened. What happened instead is that Devens spent the afternoon asking for the veto, first in the abstract, then out loud, then by name.

What you already have

You already know the shape of the midnight. Yash told Barrett and Taylor Brown that the veto is for us. Drew Campbell made his rounds through both rooms like a man doing stereo. If you missed it, the morning note has all of it, and this one will not rebuild it. The only update to that file is that nothing in it has been contradicted yet — which, in this house, counts as stability.

The wake-up is rain and stings. A BIG BROTHER at 9:18, feeds back at 9:41 to a house that mostly refuses to be awake. Another sting at 12:26, back at 12:32 to six people at the kitchen table. Neither one is a ceremony. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

The gym

The spine of the day runs through the gym, where Devens and Barrett are working out at 4:53 and doing the other thing men do in gyms, which is negotiate. Devens thinks the Blockbuster will be the ropes this week, because he is against Dee.

At 4:47, Devens frames the alliance: "I did the DPOV, so I know we're allies people might not fully trust." That is Devens characterizing his own résumé, and you should file it exactly there, because Friday's file still conflicts with it and nobody with a badge has confirmed who owns anything. Barrett answers with his own confession: he blew up his own spot this week, and now he feels like he has to keep winning.

At 4:55, Barrett admits that if he had gotten HOH earlier, he probably would not have done it — "it" being nominating the three Icons. Devens, generous in the way a nominee can afford to be: first blindside. Congrats, I think.

At 4:49, Devens announces he does not even care about the wording of the Yash bribe anymore. If he sticks around, they will be after each other and might need each other again. Leave that sentence alone. It is doing exactly as much work as it wants to.

Then the ask, in two beats. At 5:08, Barrett mentions Yash has been passed out in the HOH room for five hours. Devens: who would you renom? Barrett: I don't know — and he smiles, which is a full paragraph in Barrett. At 5:11, the room briefly relitigates the past: Angela asked Barrett why he thinks she is a bigger threat than Devens, Barrett says he never said that, and Devens points out Barrett picked Yash for veto because he did not want a renom at all.

And at 5:16, the sentence of the day, Devens to Barrett: can we get Yash to use this thing?

By evening the abstract has a beneficiary. At 7:14, Devens sits down with Taylor and lays it out: he is laser focused on Drew and Barrett, Melody might have to go up, Yash is loyal — more loyal, he admits, than Devens himself has been. At 7:17 he says it plainly: he wants the veto used on him.

Taylor does the math out loud: if you put me up, you are okay with me going home. She also sees Barrett and Drew as Devens's babies, which Devens greets with an "oh no" that convinces exactly no one. At 7:19, Devens observes that people do not want to go versus Yash at the end, and the feeds cut. Newest Jokers at last pull: 7:19.

The girls' pitch

Meanwhile, the other campaign. From 2:53 to 3:07, Angela and Dee shut the bathroom door. Angela's read: the boys are inseparable, Devens is closer to them, and Devens is more likely to reach the end if he stays. Dee feels weird campaigning against him. Dee cries. Angela, who does not do weird: find dirt on me, I don't care — and then, who do you love more, Devens or your parents?

The draft that comes out of that room is specific. Dee will tell Melody not to play Drew's game and Taylor not to play Yash's. Angela coaches the framing: do not say "I'll put up the boys," say you want to stick with the girls — though if Angela wins HOH, all boys go up. At 4:39, Angela pitches Taylor directly: you are a number to keep my ass here and I am a number to keep yours. Taylor: I'm down. At 4:50 they ask about Melody; Taylor thinks Melody would hear it out and already sees through Drew.

That is a pitch, not an alliance. Dee also says she will still try to win Blockbuster, which tells you where the trust level actually sits.

One sentence for the have-not bed: at 4:14, Melody muses that if Dee did the Yash deal the way she described it, Dee played Yash perfectly. Melody's read, nothing more.

Where it stands

The ceremony is still ahead. Three Icons still sit. Yash has not used anything, and as of 5:08 had not been awake in five hours, which is honestly the most consistent gameplay in the house. Barrett's birthday supplies arrived in storage at 6:14, so somebody in production believes in tomorrow.
