Morning Update: That Veto For Us

Sunday morning the board has not moved: Barrett HOH, Yash has the veto, three Icons still sit. Overnight Yash thanked Barrett for the pick and said that veto is for us. Drew told Devens he won't vote him out — then told Melody he's for real about FAP. Ceremony still ahead.

Sunday morning, September 6, house time. Last night's note already has the result, so you're not here for the result. You're here for what happened after. The board is where you left it: Week 9, Barrett Pfeiffer's HOH, Yash Patel holding the veto, Angela Murray, Dee Valladares, and Rick Devens still sitting as the three nominees, eight people left, jury underway. Dee and Melody Morris are have-nots. Three-nominee week. The Blockbuster is not over. The ceremony hasn't happened.

Overnight, Yash decided the silence was over. And Drew Campbell decided to talk to both sides of the house, which is a decision with a shelf life.

What you already have

Quick recap, four sentences, then we move. Yash won BB Comics. Barrett picked him to play. Devens said 26 seconds; Barrett said 20. Yash said he was taking the W in silence, which lasted until roughly midnight.

The title beat

At 12:12, Yash lays it out for Barrett like a toast. What a week — you win HOH, BB Comics, your birthday, and an Icon goes home this week. Good shit. Taylor Brown laughs, because Taylor is there and it's funny if you're on the right side of it.

At 12:13 Yash gets to the point. Thank you for picking me, bro. Barrett tells him he killed it. And then Yash, to Taylor and Barrett both: that veto for us.

That's the sentence. Last night he was taking the W in silence. By midnight it's a table setting.

At 12:16 Taylor asks if the HOH was a Survivor-style comp, and Barrett points out Yash has now won OTEV and BB Comics, and Taylor floats that he could be the first to do both. That's house talk from people who are pleased with themselves at midnight, not a stat, so file it as house talk.

The strategy arrives at 12:23, and it arrives while Barrett is out of the room, which is how you know it's real. Taylor: Drew will never put up Angela. What do we do? Yash: you or Melody win HOH. Taylor wants Dee out next week. Yash says Drew needs to go next. Taylor says she'd take Barrett over Drew. Then Barrett walks in and the conversation becomes a different conversation, as conversations do.

At 12:29 Barrett gives Yash his own version of the toast: he couldn't go to the end of the game with the Icons and have them snipe him. Thanks for being a baller. At 12:32 they're grading nominees like scouts — Dee is quick but not quick in thought, Devens is quick in thought, Devens picked the comps up today. Nothing brings a house together like an Icon on the block.

Drew, in stereo

Now rewind, because Drew's night is the other file.

At 10:21 in the backyard, Drew tells Devens he is not going to vote against him. More than that — he says he won't be gunning for whichever two Icons survive the week, and that he wants to mess up Barrett's HOH. He coaches Devens on the cover story: tell the others you're gunning for Drew and Barrett. He says he'll try to sweet-talk Melody and report back. That is Drew talking to Devens. Whether it's a plan or a performance is not something you get to know yet.

Because at 12:35, walking the yard with Melody, Drew says he hopes Barrett is serious about FAP — the three of Drew, Barrett, and Melody — and then says it plainly: I'm for real about FAP now. Melody: finally, damn.

Both of those sentences happened, two hours and fourteen minutes apart, to two different people. You are not required to pick which one Drew meant. Neither, apparently, is Drew.

There was already a warning shot on this. At 9:52, Drew leaves Angela and Dee in the backyard, and they immediately talk about what a bad actor he is, still pretending to be with them. Angela hates that everyone's up in the HOH room and wishes it were them. The Icons see the performance. They just can't cancel the show.

The yard, the wind-down

Earlier in the HOH, 9:25, Barrett and Melody agree Yash has to go because he's too good, agree Taylor hasn't done anything, and both suspect a double eviction this week — suspect, not know, so label it and leave it. Melody thinks Barrett beats Drew in a final two. Barrett says so could you. Everyone's flattering everyone up there.

At 10:42 Yash debriefs Melody on the veto — he thought he fumbled it, wasted time, thought he lost to a 40-year-old man. At 10:44 Barrett calls picking Yash the best pick of the season. Handshake. Yash: just as we planned. At 10:47 Drew wanders in reporting the Icons are heartbroken, and Melody offers to cry them a f-ing river.

The Drew-and-Melody walk softens as it goes. She pitches FAP moving to San Diego. He says he's stressed and doesn't like these people. At 1:26 he spins her, twirls her, picks her up, and Big Brother tells them to stop that, safety first, no horsing around. At 1:33 he says you are my Mallory, can I be yours, which gets exactly this one sentence. Melody says she came here for two things — have fun and win Big Brother — and she's already had enough fun.

Yash gets called to the DR at 12:47 in his comics outfit. That's a photo op, not a ceremony. Main lights out at 2:50, Melody to the have-not room, Taylor startles awake at 3:02 insisting she wasn't dreaming, quiet by 6:31. Last Jokers pull: 6:33 Sunday.
