Evening Update: LaTrice Nominates Barrett, Chuk, and Haley

LaTrice abandoned a backdoor plan and directly nominated Barrett, Chuk, and Haley—then told Chuk that Haley is her actual target.

LaTrice said she wanted to level the playing field, and Friday night she did it the direct way: Barrett Pfeiffer, Chuk Anyanwu, and Haley Thogmartin are the Week 5 nominees, all three named at the ceremony with no replacement gymnastics required. But the final trio isn't the story — the story is the ten hours of hallway diplomacy that turned a Barrett/Kamu/Drew opening plan into something sharper.

The morning fog

Feeds came back at 8:54 AM to a house still chewing on Thursday's 8–3 eviction vote. The old power structure spent the morning accusing itself: Haley questioned whether Kamu could be trusted, Devens worried out loud that somebody was setting him up, and Chuk — in what will read very differently by dinnertime — said around 10:30 AM that he felt confident he wouldn't touch the block this week and wanted Haley and Dee protected.

That's the misread of the day, and it wasn't a small one.

The first plan

Haley opened the HOH parade at 12:05 PM, telling LaTrice she trusted Angela, Chuk, and Taylor. Barrett came in a few minutes later, praised the Wall win as a refreshing power shift, and then got the actual reason for the meeting: LaTrice wanted him as a pawn. Barrett objected — pawns go home, he noted, correctly — but conspicuously did not throw out another name.

By 12:25 PM, LaTrice was giving Angela the early blueprint: Barrett, Kamu, and Drew as initial nominees, with Haley as the intended replacement target. Angela celebrated the Haley part loudly. Drew followed at 12:43 PM with an emotional pitch about feeling disposable and missing his mother; LaTrice reassured him and said she wanted people around her who valued her. Kamu got the pawn talk at 12:52 PM — you might have to sit, you're not the target, I'll pull you down if I win veto.

At 1:05 PM, with Melody urging her to strike before the other side could repair itself, LaTrice described her target as a strong woman and a planned renom. She had two nominees locked in her head. The third seat was still open at 1:33 PM when she told Taylor as much, and at 2:30 PM Drew heard yet another version: Drew, Barrett, and Kamu up initially, Barrett potentially coming down, replacement target going home.

Three conversations, three configurations. This was a plan in motion.

How the room changed it

Credit where it's due: Yash and Kamu found the seam. At 3:58 PM, Yash argued that Kamu shouldn't touch the block at all, because the house might evict him over Haley — and suggested Chuk instead. Twenty minutes later Kamu made the same case from his own angle, pushing Haley and Chuk onto the block together with Barrett as the third. LaTrice's answer was consistent throughout: the goal is Haley leaving.

But don't mistake lobbying for steering. LaTrice took in a full day of pitches — Angela's cheerleading, Melody's urgency, Drew's plea, Yash and Kamu's redirection — and made the call that fixed the flaw in her own plan. Why put your target up as a replacement and hope the veto cooperates when you can put her on the block directly? By 4:40 PM, she told Taylor and Yash the final version: Chuk, Haley, and Barrett, straight up, with Drew a possible replacement if someone came down.

At 4:51 PM she rehearsed the ceremony logic aloud: level the playing field. Haley causes disruption. Chuk acts as the intermediary. Barrett needs to pick a side. Then she called for a "historic nomination ceremony" — a Wall winner enjoying her moment, and honestly, earned.

The fallout

Feeds went down for the ceremony and returned around 6:53 PM with the board confirmed. Drew immediately apologized to Barrett, who took the pawn seat he'd been warned about. Haley said she trusted nobody — which, given her morning spent questioning Kamu, is at least consistent. She also admitted she expected Kamu next to her, not Chuk.

Chuk was the one genuinely blindsided. He said LaTrice put up strong players and was visibly upset that he got no warning — reasonable, considering he spent the morning feeling safe and only learned at 7:05 PM how late the plan changed. At 7:14 PM, LaTrice explained it to his face: she views his closeness with Haley as dragging down his game. And at 7:15 PM she said the quiet part plainly — Chuk is not her target. Haley is.

What's settled and what isn't

Settled: the Week 5 board reads HOH LaTrice Verrett; nominees Barrett Pfeiffer, Chuk Anyanwu, Haley Thogmartin. Haley is the stated target as of 7:15 PM.

Not settled: everything else. No veto winner yet, no Blockbuster yet, and "stated target on Friday night" has a well-documented shelf life in this house. Drew's name came up as a possible replacement before the ceremony, but that was pre-nomination chatter, not a commitment. LaTrice changed her plan three times in one afternoon before choosing the cleaner direct strike — there's no reason to assume she's done adjusting.
